Former US President Barack Obama has told Democrats that President Joe Biden’s chances of winning the November 5 election have “greatly diminished” and believes that the 81-year-old leader should seriously reconsider his re-election bid, The Washington Post reported, citing multiple people involved in the matter.

Obama spoke to Biden, who served as his vice president from 2009 to 2017, only once since his disastrous presidential debate against former US President Donald Trump last month, according to The Washington Post.

Obama has been clear in his conversations with the Democrats that it is up to Biden to decide his candidacy. He has stated that his concern was to protect Biden and his legacy and has decided against pushing the thought that he alone can influence the President’s decision-making process.
