Dubai’s new airport to be world’s largest, 400 gates, 5 parallel runways

Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Sunday said that Dubai will be the “world’s airport, its port, its urban hub, and new global centre”, as he announced a new airport project worth nearly 35 billion US Dollars (Rs 2.9 lakh crore).

The new airport will be called the Al Maktoum International Airport and will boast five parallel runways, a capacity to host 260 million passengers and 400 aircraft gates.

As the Dubai ruler made the announcement in a post on X, he said that the new project would ensure “continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn”.

  • The Al Maktoum International Airport will boast the world’s largest capacity with 260 million passengers a year.

  • All operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to the new multi-billion dollar project in the coming years and it will be five times the size of the current airport.

  • The airport will feature 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways. Dubai’s aviation sector will see new aviation technologies for the first time.

  • An entire city will be built around the airport in Dubai South as the ambitious project will also lead to the demand for housing for a million people.

  • The airport will host the world’s leading companies in the logistics and air transport sectors. The new terminal will cost 128 billion AED (34.85 billion US Dollars or Rs 2.9 lakh crore).
