A judicial filing has revealed that a resident of the US state of Florida has pleaded guilty to charges connected to a case concerning the assassination of former President of Haiti, Jovenel Moise in 2021.

Frederick Joseph Bergmann Jr. specifically pleaded guilty to submitting false or misleading export information and conspiring to offences against the US, according to the filing on Friday.

Moise, the 43rd President of Haiti, was assassinated on July 7, 2021 at his residence in the country’s capital city of Port-au-Prince.

More than 20 people, many of them retired Colombian military personnel, have been arrested in connection with the killing.

The 53-year-old had ruled Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, by decree after legislative elections due in 2018 were delayed in the wake of multiple disputes, including on when his own term ended.
