Six people died and 14 others were injured after a truck carrying 60 tonnes of liquified natural gas (LNG) collided with a car and exploded early on Wednesday in Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar.
In a statement, the Mongolian National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on its website that three people and three fighters were killed. Fourteen others were sent for medical treatment, NEMA said, news agency Reuters reported.
Of the 14 injured, 10 were taken for treatment for burns, while one child was being treated for poisoning. Three other infants were kept under observation.
The fire was extinguished after rescue teams were sent to the spot.
Pictures showed the remains of the truck and the car that collided with each other and widespread damage to a street. The explosion also resulted in windows blowing out at a nearby school.
According to NEMA, residents of a nearby apartment block were temporarily relocated and roads around the affected area were shut as authorities were clearing up debris, Reuters reported.
